Meaning of “Facilitate”
The dictionary definition of facilitate is “to make easy, promote, help forward” and this is what Green Ant aim to do for plastic recycling.
By identifying and locating plastics in the waste stream and identifying suitable plastic recyclers across the country and matching the two together we aim to increase the volumes of plastics being recycled and minimise the environmental impact of that recycling.
Plastic waste – 90% Fresh Air
Anyone involved in plastic recycling for will know, plastic waste is 90% fresh air which makes transporting it long distances both environmentally and economically non-viable.
They will also be able to tell you that there are 100’s of different plastic types, which means they have to be segregated if they are to be effectively recycled.
This is why your local authority only allows you to put certain types of plastics into your recycling bin at home and is also the reason why we get so many enquiries from people with smaller volumes of plastic available for recycling. People who struggle to find someone to take their plastics even thought they are often willing to pay to send it somewhere for it to be recycled.
Recycling vs Facilitating
There are many “plastic recycling” companies across the UK and like any other industry they vary in their size and the complexity of the plastic recycling services they offer. Some examples of plastic recycling companies could be:-
- Collector / Baler – in its simplest form the collecting of plastic waste and baling it up to make it more compact for shipping to processors can be classed as a recycling of sorts.
- Small Recycler – a small plastic recycler may have a baler and one or more relatively small plastic granulation machines. They will often work locally within a given radius, collecting waste plastics and processing them into a granulate.
- Large Recycler – a large plastic recycling company may have invested in larger more heavy duty equipment that will enable them to recycle a more diverse range of plastic products and at a much higher throughput.
- Recycling / Compounder – a recycling compounder is likely to have some of the above equipment but also invested in plastic compounding equipment that will enable it to produce recycled plastic compounds / pellets.
Each of these plastic recyclers play a part in the plastic recycling process but each has its plus points and limitations.
By choosing to facilitate plastics recycling rather than do the physical recycling Green Ant are able to utilise the best points of each recler and ensure more plastics get recycled by matching the right plastics in the right location with the right recycler for the job.
UK Plastic Recycling Network
By working with smaller localised plastic recycling companies as Green Ant Plastic Recycling Associates we aim to increase the volumes of plastics recycled in the UK by developing a network of recycling points around the country for companies with smaller volumes of plastic waste.
Making Plastics Recycling Happen
All in all, by facilitating plastic recycling Green Ant are “Making Plastic Recycling Happen” in the UK.
